Flashback to the 1960s and 1970s, where the modest swimsuit of the 1950s went out and in came the cute two piece bikini and flashy one piece bathing suit. 60s swimsuits with contrasting Mod colorblocks were one fad and jewel tone bathing suits were another. Pink, green, orange, black were common. Gingham checks, stripes, and polka dots in pastel colors filled the pattern scene. Boho swimsuits of the hippie era finished the decade in plenty of poolside party style.
70s swimsuits favored the boyshort bikini or terry cloth swimsuit. The new maillot design with cut out sides caused a stir on the beach back then, they’re back in fashion now. The swimdress also returned to fashion in the 70s. In the late 70s the itsy bitsy bikini took off in stripes, geo prints, rainbows, tropical florals and textured solids.
