When choosing a 1920s style men’s shirt for your outfit, don’t be shy of color- 1920s men embraced bold yellow, blue, purple, orange, and even pink solid and vertical stripes. Neckties and bowties were also colorful, clashing against the shirt body. Early 1920s dress shirts had detachable white round collars called club collars. Detachable point collars and later spread and spearpoint collars came into fashion in the ’20s, too. Casual men’s 1920s shirts were often plaid prints with open collars while workwear was plain wool two pocket shirts.

We love watching Peaky Blinders, Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, and all the other 1920s movies and TV series. The colorful striped gentlemen’s suits and country tweed sport suits are always complemented with a striped or colored white collar shirt. Eventually, most collars were attached to shirts and no longer just came in white but matched the rest of the shirt. There was little distinction between casual, work and dress shirts. Sports shirts were often plaid prints with open collars.
Tip: Detachable white collars are sold by neck size (we suggest buying up 1/2 size).
