What kind of shoes were popular in the 80s? 80s shoes for girls and teens were primarily jelly shoes, cutout flats, canvas flat sneakers in bright colors, high top sneakers (white or bold colors), classic Converse, Minnetonka moccasins, booties, and penny loafers. 80s shoes for women were white sneakers, canvas flats, bow flats, huarache sandals, basic pump heels, wedges, strappy evening sandals, and loafers. For the counter cultures (rockers, hip hop, pop) there were also Doc Martin boots, slouchy boots, moto boots, and spiked heels.

1980s Shoes Styles for Women
- 80s Sneakers – White high and low top sneakers from brands Reebok, Nike, and New Balance were part of every teen and woman’s shoe closet. Bright colors too were trendy in the later years and going into the 90s all combinations of pastel colors (pin, blue, yellow) were popular with girls and teenagers.
- Canvas shoes such as 80s Converse and Keds brands were casual and comfortable. Both high top Converse and low top sneakers and slipon shoes were made of in an array of primary and pastel colors. They were perfect in summer with nearly any casual outfit or simple dress.
- 80s Flats – dress flats and casual flats shoes included ballet flats, slip on flats, sandal flats, small wedge flats, slingback flats and more. Many flats were solid but most had cut outs, air holes, and straps for summer ventilation as well as to show off colorful socks.
- Jelly Shoes – One special pair of flats were 80s jelly shoes, semi clear flexible, sometimes glittered open mesh slip on shoes. I LOVED my pair of 80s jelly shoes.
- Heels – Women wore heels with dresses and wore suits. Tall thin heels or shorter heels were very basic but bright colors and shiny patent black made them stand out. Peep toes, ankle straps and bows made them flashback to earlier decades.
- Boots – Women’s 80s boots were the best. They shaft has a scrunched down look or fold over top with flat soles. Lace up booties looked like Victorian granny boots minus the heels. Traditional Western boots were also a major footwear trend.
- Sandals such as leather huaraches were trendy for the summers. Dress sandal often had small wedge soles.
