I now offer a paid service to identify and date a vintage clothing item, accessory (but not jewelry), shoes or photograph. The service is $10 per item. I will:
- Identify the item which may include the style name, material (best guess from photos), how it is worn/used/styled and anything else I can share with you about the item. My knowledge of clothing is strongest for USA brands and items.
- Provide an approximate date the item was made/photographed. For example, “late 1950s/early 1960s”
- Photograph dates are often based on the clothing and hairstyles worn in the photos. People, like today, wore clothing for 10 plus years, so even if the photo was taken in 1925 the clothing may be from the 1910 on up. I will give you a date range the photograph could be.
What I can not do:
- Value your item. I can not tell you how much your item is worth, how much it would sell for, or where to find a buyer. Valuations are highly subjective and best done in person.
- Brand name research – It takes a significant amount of time to research brand name, business information, location, etc. Without a label I cannot possibly guess what the brand is of your item. Even with a label brand information is difficult to trace. Use the resource article here to do your own research.
- Identify Jewelry. The history and identification of jewelry is its own area of expertise that I do not have enough of. I may be able to give you my best guess, but because I am not confident in my abilities I don’t want to give you a wrong estimate. Join this Facebook group: Antique & Vintage Jewelry Detectives: Identification, Discussion, Study to post photos and ask questions about your items. This group will not provide valuations.
I will do my best to give you an accurate date and identification of your item. If I can not help you I will refund you.
Ready? Fill out this form and make a payment. I use the Paypal payment processor which allows you to use any credit card, Paypal account balance, Venmo, and more. I respond to most requests within 1-2 days however if your item is more difficult I may need a few extra days.
