1840s Early Victorian sewing patterns. Called the Pre-hoop era or Jacksonian era full skirted dresses were supported by multiple petticoats. Bodices were longer with round round sloping shoulders. Popular patterns are 1840s day dresses (Jane Eyre dress), morning dress / housework dress, and evening gowns.
1850s sewing patterns embraced the new hopped skirt in the mid 1850s. Well know as the era of Queen Victorian and later the Civil War. Southern belle gowns come from this era too. Civil War day dresses and ballgowns are equally popular patterns to sew.
