What are Victorian era dresses called?
The Victorian era dresses are know by a few names. The hooped dress, the early bustle and late bustle. Hooped dresses worn over large round hoop skirts are also called Civil War dresses or Gone with the Wind gowns. Bustle dresses were also called polonaise dresses.
Victorian dresses are NOT renaissance, Rococo, Baroque, Georgian, Regency, queen, 18th century, masquerade, gothic, Mardi Gras, or Lolita. A lot of costumes dresses use the wrong names for their designs or they mix elements from multiple time periods.
