Classic men’s vintage slippers in leather, silk, velvet or cloth make great gifts for the holidays. From the turn of the century until the mid-century, men’s slippers came in a few traditional styles, usually in brown leather.
The opera slipper had deep V cutouts on the side, while the Romeo slipper was a bootie with elastic inset panels on the sides.
The slip-on loafer or smoking shoe is the most common today and back in style in fancy velvets, damask, or patent leather. Fuzzy moccasin slippers took root in the 1920s, but didn’t gain popularity until the 1940s on onward.
