1940s Style Skirts- Vintage High Waisted Skirts

1940s skirts fell to just below the knee in an A-line shape. Solid colors with no pockets or details kept them simple during war times. Later skirts grew wider with more “swing” to them, or they tightened into the straight pencil shape. All styles were high waisted with a side zipper or buttons.

In the summer, women loved to wear casual peasant skirts and blouses. Both plaid and polka dot were popular prints for skirts.  The jumper skirt – an A-line skirt with shoulder straps – was a cross between a skirt and a dress and became a favorite with young women. Best of all, vintage jumper skirts and suspender skirts are back in mainstream style this year. Woohoo!
