Men’s 1950s ties gradually went from just over 3 inches wide to a skinny 2 inches. The handpainted tie faded out of fashion, favoring solid bright colors instead. Towards the late 50s, bold tie patterns came back in style with plaids, polka dots, geometric mod art, and hand painted silk ties of tropical destinations. The thinly knit necktie with square end came back in fashion too, as did the narrow bow tie.
