The painted face, baby doll exaggeration of the mods was a thing of the past when the all natural hippie look took over. No makeup (unless it was unnoticeable) was the ideal for many women. The no make up followers still favored lip gloss to prevent chapped lips and add just a touch of shine.

70s Makeup Tutorial – Light

Those with fair skin who opted for the natural look would use:

1. Eyes – shimmer eyeshadow on the eyelids with black or brown mascara on top and bottom lashes. Shadow colors were light blue, brown, lilac purple and green. Three tones could be applied to the eyelid in heavy pastels for the evening.
2. Eyebrows – brushed and tamed with clear mascara.
3. Skin – light liquid foundation or powders with some pearlized shimmer to add a healthy glow. Bronze powders give a suntanned kiss all over the face.
4. Cheeks – berry rouge on the apples of the cheek applied in an L shape (high to low, out to in).
5. Lips – Clear lip gloss or light pink or nude pearl lipsticks. Thin lips with a slightly full bottom was the ideal shape. Try peachy pink, light peach, ivory nude, orange-coral or bright fuchsia. 1. Eyes – shimmer eyeshadow in greys or browns for daytime or blues and greens for evenings
2. Eyebrows – brushed and tweezed into a high, thin arch.
3. Eyelashes – heavy black mascara on top and bottom with eye liner.
4. Skin – liquid foundation or powders with some pearlized shimmer add a healthy glow.
5. Blush – gel rouge on the outer apples of the cheek applied in an L shape (high to low, out to in).
6. Lips – Pale frosted pinks for the mod look. Lip gloss for the natural look. Shiny or matte raspberry, plum, cranberry, mulberry lipsticks for most of the decade.
